Happiness Is… {lens envy}

Okay, so this is an ironic example of happiness.  This bout of happiness is short-lived, but for the moment that I have it, I am going to milk it for all its worth.

Happiness for me, at this moment, is borrowing my friend’s wonderful Canon EF 85mm 1:1.8 lens, and I love it so much, I’m going to have a hard time letting go.

Here are two shots I got this morning with this lens, just screwing around while at the playground with my kids and two of my favorite subjects, Harper and Paisley.  For my first try and moving targets, I really like it.

and then, she {snapped}

Happiness Is that I have 2 more photo shoots to do this week, and this bad boy is going to be my new best friend.  It won’t be ideal for my photo shoot with my friend and energetic two-and-a-half-year-old, but it’ll just fine on his immobile little brother and parents!  And I’m happily imagining the photos I will take on Sunday at a maternity shoot for a friend who is blissfully capable of standing still, thus allowing me to play with this lens in all its glory.

My poor 50mm probably feels left out.  Too bad.  I’m over it and moving on, trying not to remember that this is mine for only a week.  But, oh!  The photos I will take!  Happiness.

By the way, if you have ever used this lens or are fortunate enough to actually own it, feel free to leave some insight into its mastery.  I love it already but I need to learn how to maximize its potential quickly.

So, can you compete with that?  I’d like to see you try!  On your mark, get, set, hop!

The Happiness Is… blog hop is simply a place to come, link up a post (not your homepage!) that made you happy recently (anything but a giveaway or review) and share it with the rest of us!  Photos, recipes, crafts, stories, moments, and anecdotes are all welcome!  Come peruse other amazing posts and meet fantastic new people in the blogosphere!  The only rule is to please grab my button (right sidebar) and link back to me in some way!  That way more people will come and learn about this uplifting way to promote your blog!

Also, I will link back to my favorite post of the week on Twitter and Facebook every Monday after the link closes.  It could be you!

    I bought a 50mm f1.8 earlier this year and absolutely love it (especially for $100) but now I am addicted to glass. Too bad they cost so much… Found you through Boost My Blog. Love your site!

      Thank you! I have that lens, too, and I love it. But now that I'm using a "real" lens that is metal and glass rather than plastic, I think I can see the difference! Time to start saving my pennies!

  5. Beautiful pictures.

      Well I really like the 85 mm, but it is a bit distant from your subjects. I guess it's just what kind of photography you want to do. Glad you came by!
